As if the battle of chicken chains wasn’t intense enough, yet another brand is coming closer to (but not yet into) Pierce County.

Given its expansion plans, Pierce is one of the few area counties left out, with King, Snohomish and Kitsap counties now in the mix.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers has announced it is launching four sites in the Puget Sound region. The first is on track to open late spring in Seattle in the University District, a media representative for the chain told The News Tribune on Feb. 3 in response to questions.

Three other locations planned for the area including Lynwood, Covington and Silverdale.

Plans for a Renton site apparently were scuttled, the Puget Sound Business Journal reported.

So far its only existing location in the state is Vancouver, Washington, where it opened a restaurant last summer. It also has a restaurant in Portland, Oregon.

The brand has more than 800 sites nationwide.

In a News Tribune reader poll in December, Raising Cane’s came in third among participants responding to the question: What national restaurant chain would you like to see in our community?

In-N-Out and Burgerville ranked No. 1 and 2, respectively, with Burgerville noting plans for a future Pierce County restaurant.
