A new coffee shop that got its start on the other coast is set to open next week at the Tacoma Mall.

Gregorys Coffee will hold its grand opening on April 15.

The News Tribune in August reported on the addition of Gregorys in the former Starbucks space, which is across from Zales jewelers.

Starbucks moved across the street to a freestanding site at 4201 Steele St. in January 2024.

Company founder and CEO Gregory Zamfotis told The News Tribune last summer that Gregorys entered into a “strategic” partnership with Simon Property Group, “and they had opportunities in a number of the properties across the country to sort of take former Starbucks spaces and convert them into Gregorys.”

Gregory Zamfotis started Gregorys Coffee in 2006 in Manhattan, and has since seen the chain grow to 56 shops nationwide.

Gregorys began in 2006 with its first shop on Park Avenue in Manhattan. Since then, the chain has grown to 56, including the Tacoma site, which is its second in Washington state.

Its other Washington state property, in Kennewick, opened in June at the Columbia Center Mall.

Gregorys features coffee fresh-brewed every half hour, fresh pastries baked in-house daily and dairy-free milk alternatives at no additional cost. Its menu features various smoothies, hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, even hard-boiled eggs.

It offers a rewards program on its brand’s app, which allows for ordering ahead and points for in-shop purchases.

Hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
