A new Chipotle is expected to open soon in Tacoma. Here’s what we know

Fast-casual burrito fans, it appears you’re just a few months away from gaining a new spot in Tacoma’s West End.

Tenant improvement work began this month on what workers there say is a new Chipotle at Westgate South shopping center. The new restaurant is going into the former MOD Pizza space, 2303 N. Pearl St.

Mohit Patel, a media representative for the chain, told The News Tribune on Wednesday via email in response to questions, “We are currently scheduled to open a new location in Tacoma later this year.” Patel had no further details to share “right now.”

The News Tribune reported initial permit filings for a Chipotle restaurant there in February. At the time, a media representative for the chain declined to confirm the location, but said that the chain was “exploring opportunities to bring our real food to the Tacoma community.”

Mike Mann is project superintendent with Team Construction of Vancouver, Washington, who is working on the site. He told The News Tribune on Wednesday in a brief phone interview that he believes the opening is planned for August.

He added that work began on the site about two weeks ago. Permits filed with the city include an exterior sign permit filed in April and issued.

The site is constructed as a dine-in location, unlike the drive-thru “Chipotlane” version which opened at the Tacoma Mall in 2022. It will offer mobile pickup via the Chipotle app.
