The wait is almost over, as two restaurants and a furniture showroom soon will debut in the first wave of openings at the new Village at Tacoma Mall.
The Village, a two-building site, is the second phase of redevelopment at the mall following the demolition of the former Sears in 2019 and construction in 2020-2021 of the strip of stores on the mall lot near the west side of Interstate 5 that includes Nordstrom Rack, Kohl’s, Ulta Beauty and Total Wine & More.
Shake Shack, Dave’s Hot Chicken and Lovesac are set to open in the next few weeks, a mall media representative told The News Tribune in response to questions.
The mall representative did not provide exact opening dates, though Shake Shack’s online business listing shows a Nov. 5 opening.
It would be the first Tacoma location for each brand. Dave’s is also set to open new sites next year in Puyallup (16511 Meridian E.) and Federal Way (The Commons).
City of Tacoma media representative Maria Lee told The News Tribune that permits have been issued for all three Tacoma Mall sites.
Supreme Dumplings, Simply Thai Restaurant, Gong Cha Bubble Tea and Happy Lamb Hot Pot also are coming to the mall Village. The mall representative said opening estimates are not yet available for those sites.
The main mall building, which is going through a multi-million dollar overhaul, also has seen new brands arrive, including Garage clothing store, which opened Oct. 10, Taco Street (still to come), Pop Mart, Knot Korean Steakhouse, Kura Revolving Sushi, Gregorys Coffee and others.
On Saturday (Oct. 18), the mall is hosting a Halloween-themed grand opening celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for its new children’s play area. The first 150 kids in attendance will receive a free trick-or-treat bucket filled with goodies.
