Another national chicken chain appears headed to Pierce County.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based Raising Cane’s Restaurants LLC has filed initial plans with the city of Lakewood for a new restaurant at 10025 Lakewood Drive SW, Unit A. The location is near the intersection of Lakewood Drive Southwest and Bridgeport Way Southwest.

The project calls for “demolition of existing buildings and construction of new proposed Raising Cane’s restaurant with associated parking, double drive through lanes, patio area, and utilities,” according to the project’s description on the city’s permit portal.

A notice of public hearing was posted Nov. 7 by the city for the project. The notice states that “The City of Lakewood Planning and Public Works Department will be holding a public hearing for permit #17629 – Raising Canes – Variance proposing the addition of a second drive through at 10025 Lakewood Drive Southwest in Lakewood.”

It notes that the property “is located within the Commercial Business District zoning district and allows for the proposed use through approval of a Type III Variance.”

The public meeting will be held online over Zoom, and is scheduled for 1 p.m. Nov. 21.

The site would be the first one for Raising Cane’s in Pierce County. It opened its first Washington site in Vancouver in 2024, calling the state “untouched Caniac territory.”

It also has a restaurant in Spokane, which opened in September.

The News Tribune in February reported that new sites were being considered for King, Snohomish and Kitsap counties.

Last month, the chain offered an updated timeline with a new restaurant in Seattle set to open early next year, and another site in Lynnwood to open in 2026.

Separately, a pre-application was filed this spring with the city of Puyallup for a potential Raising Cane’s at 4110 S. Meridian. That plan called for construction of new drive-through restaurant with outdoor seating and associated parking.

No further permit updates have appeared since May on that project.

In a statement issued Nov. 10 from Raising Cane’s, the company told The News Tribune via email in response to questions that “At Raising Cane’s, we are always looking for opportunities ...”

It added that “we are actively exploring opportunities to bring new restaurants to Lakewood and Puyallup, however we can’t confirm any specific sites at this time.”
