A Portland-area construction firm now has operations in Tacoma.

Tualatin, Oregon-based Perlo Construction announced this week they have opened a new office at the Tacoma Centre, 1145 Broadway, suite 608.

It’s the latest notable new tenant for the building since November’s announcement of Lightcurve (formerly Rainier Connect) moving its headquarters to the site. UrbanWork, a Tacoma coworking business, also opened a 23,000-square-foot space last year at the building.

Tacoma Centre (formerly Tacoma Financial Center) introduced its rebranding/refresh in 2023.

Local Perlo director of operations Jordan Peterson said in a statement, “Tacoma is a community with incredible momentum, and we’re honored to be part of its growth.”

Peterson leads a team of 4 employees at the 1,560 square-foot Tacoma office. The company also has additional staff currently working on the 400,000 square-foot Des Moines Creek West building for Panattoni Development.

Todd Duwe is vice president and partner at Perlo Construction, who on Wednesday spoke to The News Tribune about the new Tacoma office.

“We love it,” Duwe said of the new office space. “It’s centrally located downtown, and it seems to be close to several engineering firms, design firms and developers that are located within a few blocks of that area, as well as the convention center. That makes it very convenient.”

Duwe explained that the bulk of Perlo’s work focuses on industrial projects: warehouses and projects such as a build-to-suit distribution center for an e-commerce company. The firm has also taken on tenant improvements, auto dealerships, self storage, and “work in the advanced manufacturing market sector,” he noted.

Some of Perlo’s work includes projects in Auburn and Frederickson as well the areas of Burlington and Spokane, in addition to southwest Washington closer to Portland.

“We’ve already been performing work in Washington state and the Puget Sound area over the last several years,” he added, so the move is to “basically better serve our existing relationships” with its development partners in the region.

The company’s history, which goes back 70 years, is on the lookout for future growth opportunities elsewhere in addition to projects along the I-5 corridor, Duwe noted.

Now that the furniture is at the new office and workers are moved in, “they’ll be able to start attending different industry events and meeting everybody and taking appointments,” Duwe said.
