New credit union in Lakewood, Tacoma juice bar reopens, other biz news

A new BECU financial center is open in Lakewood.

The credit union opened at 10011 Bridgeport Way SW, Suite 700, in late March. The new location offers in-person and digital services like video banking, according to Caitlin Goettler, BECU public relations manager.

There are seven other BECU locations through Pierce County. The Lakewood financial center will celebrate its grand opening April 21.

Juice bar reopens on Sixth Ave

Gather Juice Co. is officially back in business, as previously reported by The News Tribune.

The juice bar first opened in 2019 but closed about four months ago due to financial troubles. It re-opened April 6th at the same location, 2612 6th Ave.

Gather Juice Co. sells cold-pressed juice, smoothies, acai bowls, avocado toast, grain bowls and other bites.

The juice bar also operated a short-lived Puyallup location which will not reopen.

South Hill Mall sees new stores

Puyallup’s South Hill Mall has added two new businesses, as previously reported by The News Tribune.

Pandora, the popular jewelry chain, opened Friday across from Bath & Body Works, according to a news release from the mall.

The mall is also celebrating the opening of Miniso, a Chinese retail chain that sells toys, home goods, stationery, beauty products and other items.

Miniso opened Saturday and is located next to Game Stop.

Cafe inside Fife motorcycle shop to close

A breakfast-and-lunch cafe inside the Harley-Davidson in Fife is set to close May 2, as previously reported by The News Tribune.

Lizzie Lou’s Too opened over a decade ago inside the shop at 2302 Pacific Highway E.

The Harley-Davidson dealership was recently sold to another company, and the owner of Lizzie Lou’s, Warnessa Victorian, was told she has to leave.

Her cafe served breakfast staples all day and Southern Comfort-style eats like shrimp and grits.

Lakewood Korean market now for sale

Asian Market in Lakewood has gone up for sale after more than 40 years in business, as previously reported by The News Tribune.

The family-run market at 11715 Bridgeport Way SW is known for its kimchi and banchan, aka Korean side dishes.

It hit the market a few weeks ago, as store owners Hyo Sook Cho and Myong Hwan Cho get ready to retire.

Asian Market could still be up and running for a few months or even a few years, depending on when the space secures a buyer.

Tacoma Mall Krispy Kreme closed for now

The doughnut chain’s Tacoma Mall location is temporarily closed, as previously reported by The News Tribune.

Krispy Kreme’s outgoing voice message states that the store has been closed for a remodel since April 13.

The store, 4302 Tacoma Mall Blvd, is set to re-open next week, according to a media representative.

Puyallup gym closes doors

Northwest Fitness Co. in Puyallup closed abruptly on April 4, as previously reported by The News Tribune.

The gym announced its closure with only a few hours notice, posted to social media that “this has been more than just a gym — it’s been a community, a family and a place where lives were changed.”

The 24/7 fitness center opened seven years ago at 4301 S Meridian, Suite H. Northwest Fitness Co. said its members could continue their memberships at the same rates at the nearby UFC Fit Puyallup.
