New outpatient therapy center designed for kids opens in Tacoma
MultiCare Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital & Health Network recently celebrated the opening of a new outpatient therapy facility in Central Tacoma.
The site, 3307 S. 19th St, opened June 30 ahead of Rush Companies construction schedule, according to a hospital representative, and is across from MultiCare Allenmore Hospital.
Mary Bridge Children’s Therapy Services treats more than 16,500 pediatric patients annually at outpatient therapy clinics in Puyallup, Gig Harbor, Olympia and Federal Way.
The new 16,000-square-foot facility expands access to specialty outpatient therapies. Services include comprehensive physical, occupational, speech and feeding therapies, as well as audiology and in-house orthotics and prosthetics.
The clinic was made possible in part by $4 million in philanthropy from the Mary Bridge Brigade, a volunteer organization that contributed funding to therapy equipment, furnishings and interior completion.
“This comprehensive outpatient therapy center is a critical need for so many of our patients,” Jeff Poltawsky, president and market leader, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital & Health Network, said in a statement. “Many of our patients rely on at least two forms of therapies, often requiring multiple weekly appointments. Our goal is to provide ease of access for all patient families, so their appointments can be consolidated under one roof and be as minimally disruptive to their lives as possible.”
The site offers supporting services for patients from infants to adolescents, including acute injury recovery plans to ongoing therapy.
The clinic is the second major opening for Tacoma-based Mary Bridge this season. In May, its new $480 million children’s hospital campus opened.
The project came together in partnership with Gig Harbor based-The Rush Companies, who developed the site. A Rush-affiliated LLC acquired the then-undeveloped parcel, next to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, from a Bellevue-based investment LLC for $1.5 million in 2023. Pre-application information filed in 2024 with the city of Tacoma listed an initial cost estimate for the project at more than $3.1 million.
“This facility plays a valuable role in expanding access to pediatric therapy services in Tacoma, and we’re excited to help bring these critical resources closer to the families who need them,” said Levi Nelson, development manager for Rush Development, in a statement.
