Here are the latest COVID-19 totals for Pierce County; higher death toll part of backlog

Pierce County reported 207 new COVID-19 cases Friday and 10 new deaths.

The latest reported deaths included:

A Bonney Lake woman in her 80s.

A Tacoma woman in her 80s.

A South Hill man in his 30s.

An Edgewood/Fife/Milton woman in her 60s.

An Edgewood/Fife/Milton man in his 70s.

A Gig Harbor woman in her 80s.

A South Hill woman in her 50s.

A Tacoma man in his 50s.

A South Pierce County man in his 60s.

A Spanaway woman in her 50s.

A higher number of deaths were reported Friday as the result of “processing and technical problems from the last few days,” according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

On Tuesday, five new deaths were reported:

A Tacoma man in his 30s.

A Tacoma man in his 20s.

A Central Pierce County man in his 70s.

A South Pierce County man in his 60s.

A Tacoma woman in her 60s.

Two deaths were reported Monday. No new deaths were reported Wednesday. The health department was closed Thursday for the holiday.

As of Nov. 2, 69.1 percent of COVID deaths in the county had underlying health conditions, according to the health department’s dashboard.

The county’s totals are 93,853 cases and 885 deaths since the first confirmed coronavirus case was reported in March 2020.

Pierce County’s 14-day case rate per 100,000 was 399 for Oct. 19-Nov. 1. The rate of hospitalizations per 100,000 is at 9.

From February to September, 35,617 of Pierce County’s cases involved unvaccinated people, according to the state Department of Health in its latest vaccine data report issued Nov. 10.

That compares with 5,698 of cases involving those vaccinated during the same period, according to state DOH.

VACCINES

In Pierce County, 68.4 percent of the population 12 and older has initiated vaccination, and 62.4 percent is fully vaccinated, according to state Department of Health.

Among those 12 and older statewide, 79.6 percent has initiated vaccination, and 73.5 percent is fully vaccinated.

Go to tpchd.org/vaxtothefuture or the county’s FindYourCovidShot.com website for information on places offering vaccines and for vaccine registration. Walk-up vaccine sites run by the county and most TPCHD events now no longer require an appointment, and all TPCHD events are for first or second doses. Anyone age 12 or older is eligible for the Pfizer vaccine. Those younger than 18 need parent or guardian approval. Locations of individual vaccine sites also can be found on the state’s vaccine finder: vaccinelocator.doh.wa.gov.
