The Cheney Stadium COVID-19 testing site reopened Tuesday, but two other sites run by the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department remain closed as Pierce County continues to dig out from snow and deal with below-freezing temperatures.

Also open Tuesday is Pierce County Emergency Management’s testing site at 3003 107th St. S. in Lakewood. The location tested 1,362 people on Monday, said spokesman Mike Halliday. It was more than double Sunday’s number.

Rapid testing is not offered at either Cheney Stadium or at the Lakewood site. Both are drive-thru style.

Normally, appointments are not necessary at Cheney but are required Tuesday. The site will be closed on Wednesday. Appointments can be made online or via phone at 253-649-1412.

Halliday urged anyone headed to the Lakewood site to be in line by 4 p.m. Crews worked late in freezing temperatures Monday night to accommodate the last arrivals, he said. The testing site will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

Another county testing site operated in conjunction with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians at 2024 East 29th Street in Tacoma will be closed Wednesday, due to weather.

TPCHD’s two other sites at Bonney Lake Park & Ride and in East Pierce County might reopen this week but it’s a day-by-day decision based on weather, according to TPCHD spokesman Kenny Via.

Other testing sites at medical facilities and pharmacies are open Tuesday. Check out TPCHD’s testing website to find a location. Call ahead to double check availability and if appointments are needed.
