Fircrest man dies in head-on crash when his car fails to make Center Street curve
A Fircrest man died Tuesday afternoon after his car failed to negotiate a curve on Center Street in Tacoma.
The accident occurred around 3 p.m. in the 4600 block of Center Street, according to Tacoma Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool.
The man’s vehicle, a Volkswagen Passat, was traveling eastbound when it failed to negotiate a curve just east of the Home Depot entrance and near the Center Street Park & Ride.
The man’s car crossed the center line and struck a westbound vehicle head on.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other car, a Hyundai Elantra, was driven by a 74-year-old woman. She was transported to a local trauma hospital with significant injuries, Cool said.
A third car rear-ended the woman’s car. That driver, a woman in her 30s, was injured but declined transport to a hospital, Cool said.
As of 7 p.m., the road was still blocked as police continued their investigation.
