Tacoma transfer center not accepting residential waste, recycling until further notice

Tacoma residents: Don’t take your garbage, recycling or yard waste to the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center.

Starting Wednesday, the center at 3510 S. Mullen St. is no longer accepting residential self-hauls until further notice.

The transfer center still is accepting commercial loads over 1,000 pounds.

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility also will remain open to residential customers for hazardous waste materials only.

The change was made in response to Gov. Jay Inslee’s stay-at-home order to slow to the spread of COVID-19 and coronavirus.

The city will continue to pick up curbside waste but is experiencing delays due to COVID-19 impacts.

If residents have items that cannot be placed in their collection containers, they are asked to call 253-502-2100 to request service changes or additional pickups.

The Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center offers self-haul options for garbage, recycling, yard waste and household hazardous waste disposal and serves up to 5,800 customers per week in the summer months.
