A fire in Wapato Hills Park in Tacoma was 80 percent contained early Wednesday, according to the Tacoma Fire Department.

The 10-acre brush fire erupted Tuesday in a wooded area on the 5600 block of Tacoma Mall Boulevard and spread southwest toward Wapato Street and South 64th Street.

Firefighters went door to door on South 64th Street to speak with residents and business owners, but did not evacuate anyone.

Crews worked overnight to get control of the flames.

No structures have been damaged and no injuries have been reported.

“Crews will continue to extinguishing hotspots and conduct overhaul of the area,” Tacoma Fire tweeted at 7:18 a.m.

South 56th Street is open but South 64th between Wapato and Tacoma Mall Boulevard is still closed.
