A 52-year-old man killed in a two-car crash earlier this month in Tacoma’s Eastside neighborhood was identified Friday by the Pierce County medical examiner.

John Teal of Tacoma died Feb. 14 of multiple blunt force injuries, according to a news release from the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office. The office ruled his death an accident.

The collision occurred at about 3:50 a.m. on Portland Avenue between East 44th Street and East 46th Street. Police said Teal was driving south on Portland Avenue in a Pontiac G6 at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light.

Two people in an Infiniti G35 were turning left onto Portland Avenue from 44th Street when the back of their car was struck.

Teal was declared dead at the scene. The two people in the other car sustained minor injuries.
