Man killed in motorcycle crash in Northeast Tacoma identified by medical examiner

A 27-year-old man who died last week in a motorcycle crash in Northeast Tacoma was identified by the Pierce County medical examiner.

Austin Holmes, of Federal Way, died June 7 after he crashed into a utility pole near the 4100 block of Marine View Drive. He died of blunt trauma to his neck, torso and extremities, according to a news release from the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The man’s death was ruled an accident. Tacoma Police Department said Holmes was northbound on Marine View Drive when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road, crossed the double yellow line into southbound lanes and collided with the pole.

Officers responded after a 911 caller reported the incident at about 11:21 p.m. Police tried to save the man’s life, but he was declared dead on the scene by Tacoma Fire Department personnel.
