Some schools start late, close in Tacoma-area due to weather after overnight snow

Temperatures dipped below freezing in the Tacoma-area on Tuesday morning following an overnight dusting of snow, pushing some school districts to start late or cancel classes due to weather conditions.

Tacoma Public Schools are starting two hours late, including full-day preschool classes. Morning preschool was canceled, and afternoon activities are expected to continue as normal.

Here’s what other school districts in Pierce County are doing Thursday (these are subject to change, so check with your school district):

  • Carbondao School District: Two hour late start, no early kindergarten

  • Dieringer School District: Closed

  • Fife School District: Closed

  • Puyallup School District: Closed, after-school and evening activities are canceled unless otherwise noted

  • Sumner-Bonney Lake School District: Closed

  • White River School District: Two hour late start, no morning preschool, ECEAP or early kindergarten, and Kids Club will start two hours late

  • Life Christian Academy: Opening at 10 a.m., grades 6-12 start at 10 a.m. and K-5 start at 10:15 a.m., no before school care or activities
