Super Chix alert: First Washington site for chicken franchise slated for Pierce County
Pierce County, you’re on the cusp of being home to the first Super Chix restaurant in Washington state.
Franchise owner Mohammad Khadar spoke Thursday with The News Tribune about his plans for new locations in the area.
In a phone interview, he said the first Washington Super Chix will be at the Frederickson Place shopping center, 17710 Canyon Road E., Suite 100.
The center also saw the recent opening of Pierce County’s first Amazon Go. Plans for the Super Chix were filed with the county in November.
“We’re shooting for May,” he said of the opening.
“The second one will be in Federal Way,” he said, and after that, Lacey. A Capitol Hill site is also planned for Seattle, with opening dates and locations to be announced later.
“It’s a fast-growing concept,” he added.
Khadar also is an IHOP franchise owner, with 22 locations in Washington and Oregon over the past 20 years, he told The News Tribune.
Super Chix announced in April 2022 that Khadar and his partner, Elina Khadar, along with their operating team, were set to develop at least 35 new Super Chix restaurants in Washington and Oregon.
“The Khadars are a solid development group, deeply experienced in business startup and expansion, and restaurant operations and development in the Washington/ Oregon markets,” said CEO Darryl Neider in a statement announcing the Northwest market entry.
The chain describes itself as “a premium counter-casual, cooked-to-order dining experience.”
“In addition to superior, never-frozen crispy and grilled chicken sandwiches, tenders, fresh hand-cut and seasoned fried Idaho spuds, Super Chix also specializes in fresh salads and in-store churned, hand dipped premium frozen custard,” according to the company.
Super Chix was launched by KFC’s parent company Yum Brands in 2014 in Texas. Business Insider in 2015 called it a “Chick-fil-A killer.” That same year, the chain was sold to founder Nick Ouimet and an investment group. Franchising of the brand started in 2018 and Neider, a Five Guys multi-unit franchisee, became CEO.
Super Chix also has locations in Utah and Idaho, among other states, with more than 20 sites nationwide and more than 200 planned.
