Here’s what caused major traffic jam on I-5 in Tacoma on Friday

Reckless driving is what caused massive problems Friday on Interstate 5 in Tacoma.

Two people were injured. Four people were transported to local hospitals, according to a news release from the Washington State Patrol.

A little before 8 a.m. a BMW 340i sedan, Toyota Tundra pickup truck and another vehicle were traveling northbound on I-5 near McKinley Street. Information on the other vehicle is unknown because the driver fled the scene afterward.

The sedan and other vehicle switched from one lane to another, matching speeds. The pickup truck was on the second to the last lane when the sedan hit it from behind. The truck veered to the left, struck a concrete barrier and rolled several times before it came to a rest.

The sedan also veered to the left and struck a concrete barrier before it stopped moving. The collision blocked the roadway for about five hours. The driver of the sedan may face vehicular assault charges, according to the news release.

The News Tribune reported Friday that officials cleared the scene around 12:24 p.m. The collision blocked the four left lanes.
