Two people have died and three others were injured after a shooting on Sixth Avenue overnight Sunday, according to an update announced by Tacoma police.

Police initially said that four people had been shot, including one who had died at the scene.

But about 10 a.m. Sunday, police announced they had found a fifth shooting victim and that a second person has died. The second person died at an area hospital, Det. William Muse said Sunday.

The site of the shooting was at a patio/lounge-type business on Sixth Avenue, he added. All of the victims are adults, as well as the suspect, who was last scene leaving the area on foot, Muse said.

The deaths are the 26th and 27th homicides in Tacoma this year, which is still down from last year at this point, he said.

Police also continue to process the scene and are asking residents to use alternative routes other than Sixth Avenue.

About 1:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the 2700 block of Sixth Avenue after reports of multiple shots being fired inside a business. The location is west of the Stadium District and southeast of the University of Puget Sound.

Police arrived to find four people shot, one of whom died at the scene. The three others suffered serious injuries and were taken to area hospitals.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the South Sound 911 non-emergency line at 253-287-4455, or Tacoma/Pierce County Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
