Tacoma trash pickup will be altered for the New Year’s Day holiday. Here’s what to know

New Year’s is a time for celebrating the end of the year and looking ahead at what’s to come. In Tacoma, that could mean your trash won’t be getting picked up.

If you live in Tacoma and your usual trash pickup day is on Monday, this year you won’t have service on New Year’s Day. The holiday on Jan. 1, 2024, falls on a Monday this year.

Here is what to know about Tacoma’s New Year’s 2023 trash pickup:

Garbage and recycling containers are picked up in Tacoma on alternating weeks with food and yard waste pickup.

If you are a residential customer in a single-family home or duplex and unsure which trash pickup day schedule you are on, you can check here by filling out your location information.

If you live in a multifamily unit or have questions about trash pickup from your business, you can call 253-502-2100 to speak with customer service.

Tacoma Solid Waste Management does not pick up garbage, recycling or food and yard waste on:

  • New Year’s Day

  • Fourth of July

  • Thanksgiving Day

  • Christmas Day
