New clothing retailer coming to Tacoma Mall as part of wider national expansion
An international apparel retailer is set to open a new Tacoma store in the coming weeks.
Uniqlo is planning a May 10 opening at Tacoma Mall, 4502 S. Steele St. Currently, the closest location for shoppers is at Westfield Southcenter in Tukwila, which opened in March 2018. It will be its fourth store in Washington state, with other locations in Bellevue and Seattle.
Permits for the Tacoma store were first submitted to the city’s Planning & Development Services last fall. Banners are now up at the mall announcing the May opening.
The site will be across from the Apple Store.
The store sells its LifeWear clothing line of men, women and kids’ wear.
In December, Uniqlo announced it was doubling its North American expansion in 2023 with more than 20 new locations slated for the United States and Canada this year. Tacoma Mall was slated to be one of its new locations to open in spring. Also on that list are Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood and new stores in Massachusetts, New York and its first store in Rhode Island.
Uniqlo has more than 2,400 stores globally, with 53 stores in the United States, 19 stores in Canada and its online store. The retailer is a brand of Fast Retailing Co.., a Tokyo-based retail holding company.
Tacoma Mall is in the process of its own expansion, with a new “lifestyle village” in the works.
