The 26-year-old Tacoma woman was flagging for assistance in Puyallup on Dec. 7 when a driver struck her with his car, according to police.

A 26-year-old woman who was struck by a Puyallup driver over the weekend after trying to flag down help has been identified, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Angelica Gordillo Colmenarez of Tacoma died from blunt torso trauma Saturday near the 2400 block of South Meridian. Her manner of death has been listed as an accident, the office wrote in a news release.

Police and fire crews were dispatched at about 11 p.m. to reports that a driver struck a pedestrian. Police learned that Colmenarez and her two children had pulled into an area parking lot after their vehicle became disabled, according to Puyallup police.

Officers believe Colmenarez was trying to flag down someone for help before the Puyallup driver struck her. He was headed north. Colmenarez was taken to a local hospital but died from her injuries at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday.

The driver remained on the scene and called 911 after he struck Colmenarez. The 31-year-old man was cited for driving with a suspended license and for not having proof of insurance, police say. He was not impaired.
