A 16-year-old boy who died after being shot in Tacoma earlier this month has been identified, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Marco Teran of Tacoma died from anoxic encephalopathy due to a gunshot wound to the chest on April 12, the office wrote in a news release. Teran’s manner of death was listed as a homicide.

Officers responded to an initial report shortly after 10 p.m. when two people, a man and Teran, checked themselves into a local hospital with gunshot wounds. Through the investigation, detectives learned the shooting happened near the 4200 block of Portland Avenue East, according to the Tacoma Police Department.

The man was reportedly stable, while Teran was in critical condition, police say. The teen died a few days later at the hospital.

No arrests were made and the incident is being actively investigated.
