A Spanaway man who died in a high-speed crash in front of the Monterra Apartments in Parkland has been identified, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

David Holmes Jr., 65, died on June 14 near 112th Street East and D Street East from multiple blunt-force injuries. His manner of death was listed as an accident, the office wrote in a news release.

Deputies responded to the single-car crash just before noon. The vehicle crashed into a fence and tree, The News Tribune reported.

The driver, a 54-year-old woman, and Holmes were taken to a hospital. Holmes died en route, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.

Evidence suggests the wreck was a “very high-speed crash” and that “to cause a collision like that, it’s well over the speed limit into reckless driving,” Sheriff’s Office spokesperson deputy Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune at the time.

The driver is suspected of vehicular homicide and DUI. Deputies believe drugs were in the vehicle, she said.

The woman was in critical condition when she was taken to the hospital and has not been released, Cappetto said Friday. It is not yet known when the woman will recover and be booked.

The investigation is ongoing.
