Man shot in Tacoma on Friday dies of his wounds. Suspect arrested, police say
Police have arrested a man for his alleged involvement in a fatal shooting in the 3700 block of South Orchard Street on Friday.
Officers responded to a call about gunfire in the area just after 2:30 p.m. Friday, according to a Tacoma Police Department news release and posts on X. Upon finding a man with apparent gunshot wounds, police began life-saving measures and Tacoma Fire Department personnel transported him to a local hospital in critical condition.
“Over the weekend, the victim’s condition worsened, and he ultimately died at the hospital from complications related to the shooting,” the release said.
Detectives arrested a suspect in the early stages of their investigation, the release continued. The man was booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and drive-by shooting. The shooting is under investigation as a homicide.
The shooting occurred around two hours after another shooting about 10 blocks away, in the 2700 block of South Orchard Street, Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Shelbie Boyd confirmed. The two shootings are unrelated, she said.
