Tacoma police detectives didn’t have to chase a suspect in a fatal Friday shooting that killed a 14-year-old boy. The man turned himself in a few hours later.

The disclosure comes from a department news release sent Saturday evening. Police responded to the shooting at 3 p.m. Friday, following reports of a two-car crash at the 6400 block of McKinley Avenue in the city’s Hillsdale neighborhood.

Police soon learned a 14-year-old boy in one of the vehicles had a gunshot wound. They started lifesaving measures. Tacoma firefighter/EMTs responded to the scene, and transported the boy to a local hospital, where he died.

As the homicide investigation developed, the adult suspect appeared at police headquarters. Police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd did not know the suspect’s exact age, or whether the man knew the victim. The man was arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.
