Jet’s Pizza in Tacoma will reopen Thursday, weeks after a car crashed into the restaurant’s storefront.

The crash happened the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 28, as The News Tribune previously reported. The driver was then taken into custody for driving under the influence, according to police.

No one was injured, but Jet’s Pizza said in a Wednesday news release that the restaurant sustained significant damage. The restaurant was forced to temporarily close for repairs.

Jet’s Pizza will hold a special event the first few days after it reopens.

From Thursday through Sunday, the restaurant will donate 10% of its proceeds to the Tacoma Police Department, Tacoma Fire Department and Federal Way Cares for Kids, a nonprofit that helps to support kids and families in need.

“The love and encouragement we received from the Tacoma community after the accident meant everything to our team,” said Michael Maddie, owner of the Tacoma Jet’s Pizza, in a news release. “We wanted our reopening to be about more than just pizza — it’s our chance to give back to the people and organizations who are always there for this city.”

Jet’s Pizza, a national chain serving Detroit-style square pizza, first opened in Tacoma in July. It’s at 4125-B 49th Ave. NE. Store hours are 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
