Protests of ICE, Trump are scheduled around Pierce County. Here are details

Multiple protests against ICE and the Trump Administration are planned across Pierce County in the coming days as a response to heightened federal immigration enforcement in Minneapolis and across the United States.

Here’s a list of all the upcoming protests, vigils and similar events happening around Pierce County:

Vigil for Alex Pretti

Multiple local organizations have planned a vigil Friday for Alex Pretti, a nurse who was fatally shot by ICE agents in Minneapolis on Jan. 24. The advertisement for the vigil reads, “ICE out of hospitals.”

Anti-ICE protest outside Tacoma’s Union Station

Activists with the group Tesla Takedown appear to be organizing the protest, as previously reported by The News Tribune.

“Alex Pretti and Renee Good deserve justice and we won’t stand silently while their murders are covered up,” reads the event description. “Join our protest in honor of Alex and Renee and in solidarity with immigrant communities across the United States.”

Tesla Takedown describes itself as a peaceful protest movement against Elon Musk and the actions of the Trump Administration. The group acknowledges Musk has been quieter lately but that “there’s no doubt that Elon will side with the rich and powerful over the rest of us.”

Vigil for victims of ICE violence

La Resistencia, a local immigrant rights organization, is encouraging anyone attending the vigil to bring candles, flowers, drums or other offerings. Some members of La Resistencia have been on hunger strikes outside the detention center to protest ICE operations.

Interfaith vigil to honor those killed by ICE

All ages are welcome at this vigil to name individuals killed by federal immigration officers inside and outside of detention.

The interfaith vigil is being presented by Tacoma First United Methodist Church, the Sanctuary Northwest, Common Good Tacoma and Jewish Voice for Peace Tacoma.

“People of faith, clergy, spiritual practitioners all know how sacred grief is and how important it is to share collective grief; so that we can build collective strength,” reads the post advertising the event.

Weekly Pro-Democracy Rallies in University Place

The weekly pro-democracy rallies are organized by UP WA Indivisible, a self-described pro-democracy community collective. The group is focused on tackling threats to democracy, economic inequality and discrimination.

The group encourages anyone planning on attending the rallies to bring a friend or two, and bring a sign if you have one. The group will also provide signs for new arrivals.

Weekly protests in Puyallup

Indivisible Puyallup holds weekly anti-Trump protests in the grassy area across from the South Hill Mall Target.

Over 200 people attended the “ICE Out for Good” protest earlier this month, as previously reported by The News Tribune.

“Bring water, music, snacks, and a bucket of patriotism!” reads the event advertisement.

Franklin Pierce High & Ford Middle School walkout

“We are a majority Latino/Hispanic school so we expect a big turnout,” organizer Evan Velazquez told The News Tribune.

Federal Way student-led walkout

A “Fed against ICE” walkout is planned for Thursday in Federal Way. Organizer Marina Velasco told The News Tribune that the student-led walkout “will highlight our community’s efforts, awareness, and impact.”

Vigil at Northwest Detention Center

  • Friday, Feb. 6, 4 - 5 p.m., outside of the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma

This vigil is to honor the lives of Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and others killed by federal agents. It’s organized by the office of U.S. Rep. Emily Randall, who represents Washington’s 6th congressional district. The vigil was originally scheduled on Jan. 31 but has been postponed to Feb. 6.

Kick ICE Out of Tacoma Rally

The Pierce County Immigration Alliance invites people to rally outside Tacoma City Hall on Feb. 10.

“We met with the mayor and some city council members on Tuesday and they made it clear: they have no intention of taking the bold action needed at this time,” the alliance wrote on Instagram. “But we won’t stop until the city takes bold action and tells ICE that they are not welcome here!”
