A woman from Eatonville died after a fatal crash in Puyallup on Thursday.

According to the Pierce County Medical Examiner Office’s public portal, the woman is 76-year-old Marcella Magdalena Leiter.

The News Tribune previously reported on the two-vehicle crash, which happened at 33rd Street Southeast and Pioneer Way East near Farm 12 at about 8:45 a.m.

In a news release sent on Friday morning, the Puyallup Police Department said officers immediately tried to save Leiter’s life, but she was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

“The second vehicle was occupied by a 28-year-old female from the Puyallup area and a 33-year-old male from Tacoma,” the release said.

Chief Matt Black, a spokesperson for Central Pierce Fire & Rescue, previously told The News Tribune authorities transported the 28-year-old woman to Tacoma General Hospital for serious injuries.

“The passenger did not require immediate medical treatment,” PPD’s release said.

East Pioneer was closed in both directions between state Route 162 and Shaw Road “for several hours” while officers conducted an investigation, the release said.

“The cause of the collision remains under investigation, although impairment is not suspected,” the release said. “Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has relevant video footage is encouraged to contact the Puyallup Police Department.”
