This credit union is opening in Gig Harbor. Visitors could win $2,500 travel prize

Gig Harbor is getting a new credit union branch later this month.

TAPCO Credit Union has opened branches in Bonney Lake and Frederickson in recent years. The new location at 7109 Pioneer Way will be its sixth.

It’s a 2,300-square-foot branch, in the Pioneer Square retail complex.

Those who visit between Feb. 22 and April 21 can get a shot to win a “getaway” package worth $2,500. The winner will get a $1,500 Airbnb certificate and a $1,000 Alaska Airlines certificate and will be chosen no later than April 22, according to the contest rules.

That’s the day of the branch’s opening celebration.

The branch will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday it’ll be open until 5:30 p.m., and Saturday it will close at 1 p.m.

“Since 1934, TAPCO has been committed to improving the financial health of families and communities in Tacoma and Pierce County, and this is another big step forward in that mission,” chief executive officer Justin Martin said in a news release. “We’re excited to be extending a hand across the Narrows to the folks in Gig Harbor and the surrounding communities to continue that work.”

TAPCO’s board recently appointed Martin CEO. He started Jan. 5, The New Tribune reported, after working for Verity Credit Union in Seattle.

TAPCO is a Pierce County-based nonprofit financial cooperative and is the oldest one in the area, the news release said. People who live and work in the state can join.

It has assets of $550 million and more than 30,000 members, The News Tribune reported.
