Man fatally struck by car on dark Pierce County road has been identified

A man killed when he was hit by a car on a dark Key Peninsula roadway with no streetlights has been identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Dustin Jones, 49, died near the 1700 block of Lake Drive Southwest in Longbranch on July 26, a Medical Examiner’s Office release said. His area of residence is unknown, and his cause and manner of death are listed as pending in the release.

The News Tribune reported based on a Pierce County Sheriff’s Office report that a driver called around 1:15 a.m. July 26, saying she had hit someone sitting in the roadway at Lake Drive Southwest and 188th Avenue Southwest. The driver and a passerby attempted life-saving measures until fire personnel arrived and began CPR, but Jones did not survive his injuries.
