Here’s the latest on elective surgeries at Puyallup’s Good Samaritan Hospital
Non-emergency surgeries are back on at MultiCare’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup.
The surgeries are set to resume Wednesday after a multiweek investigation seeking the source of foreign matter that appeared in surgical instrument pans in the sterilization process.
According to Marce Edwards, MultiCare spokeswoman, the investigation “showed that its cause was a combination of equipment that was wearing out and debris from supplies.”
Edwards said more than 20 samples of the matter were tested.
“The flecks were examined by a lab, and the results show that they are from labels, degrading rubber feet on baskets, gaskets and disposable wipes,” she told The News Tribune via email on Tuesday. “We have conducted multiple deep cleans of the entire system to eradicate the foreign materials and completed extensive servicing of the equipment.”
Edwards noted that trays “coming out of the sterilization process now are passing inspection.”
Non-emergency surgeries were delayed, canceled or moved to another facility after the matter was detected a few weeks ago.
Emergency surgeries were unaffected.
