‘Holiday Magic’ returns to State Fair. Here’s what’s new, including COVID protocols
December 2021 marks the second time the Washington State Fair is hosting “Holiday Magic,” but it won’t be like last year.
“It’s bigger, brighter and better,” State Fair spokesperson Stacy Van Horne said.
Holiday Magic begins on Dec. 10 and will run until the end of the month, but it will be closed on some days. It will be open from Dec. 10-12, 17-23 and 26-31. Hours are 5-10 p.m, with the last entry at 9:30 p.m. Parking is free.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the fairgrounds. General admission will cost $20 online and $22.50 at the fairgrounds. Children ages 6-12 will cost $15 online and $17.50 at the fairgrounds. Children under 5 are free.
Attendees ages 12 and up must show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result that is taken 72 hours before visiting. A printed copy or digital version of the COVID-19 test result is acceptable.
Those who show up and do not have either their vaccination card or test result will have a chance to get tested at the fairgrounds from 5-8 p.m. at no cost. Masks will be required both indoors and outdoors. Handwashing and sanitizing stations will be available.
More information on COVID-19 protocols can be found online at thefair.com.
This year’s Holiday Magic will be more of a walk-through and interactive event compared to last year, Van Horne said. In December 2020, the fairgrounds held a drive-through version of Holiday Magic with a lot of lights.
Attendees can expect to find an ice skating rink, a light show as well as a bar and fire pit at this year’s Holiday Magic.
Ice skating tickets, which are separate from admission, cost $8 per person online or $10 at the fairgrounds.
Vendors will be at the event, selling classic fair foods and holiday gifts.
Santa’s Express Train will also make an appearance. Attendees also have the chance to wander through Santa’s Village, which includes his workshop, tree farm as well as a candy factory.
