Crews are trying to trap a bear that’s been wandering near a popular Puyallup park
Officials have placed a bear trap in Clark’s Creek Park.
The Puyallup Police Department posted 11:45 a.m. Friday, July 14, on social media that a bear was spotted Thursday near the dog park area.
Police couldn’t find the bear, according to the social media post. The state Department of Fish and Wildlife set a trap to try to capture it, police said.
“Please keep your eyes wide open if you are in the park or out on the trails,” police wrote in the social media post.
The bear is the same one a tipster saw last month.
The News Tribune reported in June the police department received a tip about a black bear walking near where the Puyallup Loop Trail meets Clark’s Creek.
The police department posted in June that those who see a bear should stand still and quietly move away. Don’t run as it may trigger them to chase. Trying to look bigger or creating loud noises can scare them away. If a bear makes contact, fight back and don’t play dead. Bear spray can help.
