We wanted to know your favorite part of the Washington State Fair in Puyallup.

Was it the carnival rides? The animal barn? The state fair food?

Our unscientific poll got 105 votes. Some of your answers surprised us.

We gave you 21 options. The clear winner, with 35 votes, was Fisher Scones. A third of you told us those buttery scones filled with raspberry jam are the best part of the state fair.

Washington State Fair Fisher Scones

Fisher Scones are a big deal at the state fair, and elsewhere, for that matter. In fact, a local author recently published a book about their history, called “Washington’s Fisher Scones: An Iconic Northwest Treat Since 1911.”

Fans might not know that, for 55 years, the scones had raisins.

Visitors will find Fisher Scone stands throughout the fairgrounds. They serve strawberry shortcake and coffee, too, among other treats.

“Smeared with whipped butter and local raspberry jam, our original scone recipe continues its record as a crowd pleaser,” the company’s website says.

But for 14 state fair party-poopers, who took second place in our poll, the scones weren’t enough.

They voted that the best part of the Puyallup fair is, “When it’s over.”

To be fair (ha!), state fair traffic can be tough for locals throughout September.

Krusty pups, the giant hand-battered corn dogs sold at the Sales Family stands, took third place with nine votes.

Fourth place was a tie between Earthquake Burgers and “the joy of a kid with a bracelet for unlimited rides.” The iconic hamburgers and the ride wristbands each got seven votes.

We can’t believe that llamas got no votes. Not one. Do yourself a favor, visit the livestock barns this year. They’re great.
