Puyallup man hit and killed while walking on sidewalk has been ID’d by Medical Examiner

A pedestrian who died after a vehicle hit him Tuesday, Feb. 20, in Puyallup has been identified.

Quoc Nguyen of Puyallup was 37 years old, he died from multiple blunt force injuries, and the manner of death was “accident,” according to a release from the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office Monday.

Investigators determined that Nguyen was walking on a sidewalk northbound near the 4000 block of South Meridian when a 41-year-old driver struck him from behind, The News Tribune reported. The driver crossed all the lanes of South Meridian and crashed into the side of a drug store, according to police.

On Friday, Feb. 23, Pierce County prosecutors charged the alleged driver, Kyle Lynn Sandstrom, with one count of vehicular homicide, The News Tribune reported.

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, a not-guilty plea was entered on Sandstrom’s behalf during his arraignment. A Pierce County Court Commissioner set his bail at $300,000, The News Tribune reported.
