Pierce County juice bar abruptly closes Tacoma, Puyallup locations

A Pierce County juice bar has closed its doors for good – just three months after opening a second location.

Gather Juice – which served smoothies, acai bowls, avocado toast, grain bowls and other healthy foods – announced the closure in an Instagram post on Dec. 13.

“Every juice we pressed, every bowl we topped, every piece of sourdough we toasted — we made it with the hope it would be the best part of your day. We wanted eating well to feel easy, not like a fight with yourself,” the post said. “The reality is the economics just stopped working. We gave it everything we had, and we’re proud of what we built, but it was time.”

In the post, they said the juice bar’s last day was on Dec. 6.

The juice bar first opened in 2020, with its Tacoma location at 2612 6th Ave. They opened a second location in Puyallup just three months ago at 108 N Meridian, between Caskcades and The Candle Bar. The company said in the social media post that both locations had closed.

“When we opened Gather in 2020, we had one simple belief: healthy food should taste so good you actually crave it,” the post said. “That idea started with a little beachside shack in Bali and became this place we’ve been lucky enough to share with you for six years.”

On Dec. 15, they posted a second post on Instagram addressing customer complaints about the juice bar promoting gift cards during its last week in business.

“We promoted gift cards on November 26th because we were still working to keep Gather open. We knew things were tough, but we believed we’d find a way through. By December 6th, it was clear we couldn’t. We would never knowingly sell something we couldn’t honor,” the post said. “We’re refunding all gift card purchases made since that promotion. If you bought one during that window, you don’t need to reach out—we’re already working through the list.”

Later in the post, they called the closure “one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make.”

“We’re grateful for everyone who’s given us six years of trust, and we hope that track record speaks to who we are,” the post said.
