Puyallup is getting a new coffee shop soon.

Amanda Faille, owner of Rainier Valley Coffee, told The News Tribune Tuesday that she started the chain 10 years ago, with the first drive-thru location in Bonney Lake. Over time, it expanded to drive-thrus in Enumclaw, Maple Valley and Renton — and in May 2023, they opened their current drive-thru location in Puyallup at 11016 Valley Ave. E.

“We’re losing our spot in Puyallup because the owner sold it a year and a half into our lease. Our lease stipulates, basically, that we have a year to get out if so requested,” Faille said. “We make our sandwiches out of that location, so we need another. So, we decided to occupy this space.”

Faille said the location on Valley Avenue will close in July of this year and they are expecting to open the new location downtown in March, meaning there will be a few months overlap where they will have six stores and two Puyallup locations.

“We’re hoping for the beginning of March, we just need to submit our plans to the health department,” Faille said. “We have everything else as far as equipment or menus. We’re going to submit all of that today and hopefully have a grand opening in mid-March, but a soft opening in the beginning.”

The new Puyallup store will be the drive-thru chain’s first sit-down cafe and a more “food-driven concept.”

“It’s just an added bonus for the food, to elevate our food,” Faille said. “We’re going to do mini pancakes, avocado toast, acai bowls, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, soups, salads — we’re really excited to get into more of the restaurant-type food service.”

In a follow-up email, Faille added that the location will also offer “protein smoothies, yogurt & cottage cheese bowls and fresh baked goods.” There will be gluten-free options.

Faille said that while the breakfast sandwiches are already offered at the chain’s drive-thru locations, the mini pancakes and acai bowls are new and unique to the downtown Puyallup store. The new location will also have a children’s nook, complete with a little TV, a kitchenette, a play area, a little free library and art materials for drawing.

“We kind of know our niche out in Puyallup and what people like because of our Puyallup location, and we also want to make it good and inviting,” Faille said. “So, it’s just kind of a quick bite, hangout, have a coffee with your girlfriend or whoever.”
