Deputies release video of convenience store robbery where clerk was shot. Suspect at large

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department released surveillance video Thursday afternoon of a robbery that left a convenience store clerk critically injured from a gunshot wound earlier in the day.

Deputies hope someone recognizes the robber, who is thought responsible for another robbery in Tacoma on Wednesday where a clerk was shot in the leg.

In Thursday’s incident, a masked man walked into the store near Portland Avenue and 104th Street East. The clerk complied with the robber’s demand for cash, but the suspect shot him before fleeing, deputies said.

“Completely senseless,” the department said in a tweet.

Detectives believe the robber probably fled in a vehicle that had been parked nearby.

“We are asking all businesses & residences in the neighborhood to please check their surveillance cameras for any suspicious vehicles or activity between 5:30-6:00 a.m. this morning,” the department tweeted.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 6 feet tall and 170 pounds who last was seen wearing a black ski mask, black hooded jacket and dark blue pants.
