Suspect in fatal shooting of Fife teenager arraigned, bail set at $2 million

A 21-year-old suspected in the fatal shooting of a teenager in Fife earlier this year appeared in Pierce County Superior Court on Friday afternoon.

Shawn Thomas Cooke pleaded not guilty at arraignment to first- and second-degree murder in connection to the death of 17-year-old Cameron Wilson.

Court Commissioner Craig Adams set bail at $2 million.

U.S. Marshals arrested Cooke Oct. 1 in Louisiana.

Charging papers give this account:

Wilson’s body was found early May 13 in a parking lot near the 1300 block of Willow Road East.

Cooke allegedly tried to set up a fight there between Wilson and someone he accused Wilson of taking marijuana from. Cooke threatened to arm himself with a gun and find Wilson if he didn’t show up.

Video showed a Chrysler Sebring in the parking lot, and records indicated such a car registered to Cooke.

Law enforcement saw Cooke in Cle Elum a couple days later in a different vehicle and took him to Fife.

He tried to arrange a fight, he said, but denied knowing anything about Wilson’s death. He said he had lost the Sebring before the shooting.

Police released Cooke pending further investigation.

He was charged and a warrant was issued for him in September, after investigators had more information.

The Sebring was found abandoned in South Tacoma two or three days after the shooting.

Video showed Cooke driving the vehicle days after he said he lost it.
