Man fatally shot in Tacoma’s North End has been identified

A 25-year-old man fatally shot at a home in Tacoma’s North End has been identified by family members as Brian Cendejas.

Police were called about 1 a.m. Sunday to a house in the 3800 block of North 21st Street.

Cendejas was found suffering from a gunshot wound and taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

He died later that night, according to his family.

Detectives declined to release information about the circumstances of the incident, including how many people were present and what led up to the shooting.

The shooting is not considered a homicide at this point, spokeswoman Wendy Haddow said.

It is the first fatal shooting in Tacoma this year.

Medical examiners will perform an autopsy this week.

No one has been arrested.

“Brian was the best friend anyone could ask for,” according to a GoFundMe page. “His contagious laughter and heart-warming smile will forever be remembered.”

The page had raised nearly $5,000 by Wednesday afternoon.
