Pierce County babysitter sentenced for child pornography possession charge

An 18-year-old Pierce County woman who advertised herself as a babysitter or nanny was sentenced Friday for possession of child pornography.

Pierce County Superior Court Judge Garold Johnson sentenced Victoria Annalise Del Carmen to credit for time served: the day she already spent in jail.

Johnson also sentenced her to 36 months of community custody and to take part in treatment. She’s also required to register as a sex offender.

That was what the defense and prosecution recommended.

Del Carmen pleaded guilty to second-degree child pornography possession last month.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children told detectives that child pornography had been shared to an IP address in the unincorporated county, and detectives traced the IP address to Del Carmen’s home, according to charging papers filed in April.

Del Carmen had been advertising herself as a babysitter or nanny online, and investigators found a life-like baby doll, doll parts, diapers, pacifiers and baby clothes in the bedroom of her Puyallup-area home, the charging papers alleged.

Deputy prosecutor Dru Swaim wrote the court that Del Carmen is a low-risk to re-offend, was a minor when the behavior started, needs mental health treatment and was a victim of past abuse.

Defense attorney Harry Steinmetz told The News Tribune: “We worked out something that probably protects the community the best.”

Steinmetz noted that the sentence means Del Carmen will be supervised by the state Department of Corrections much longer than she would otherwise.

Del Carmen’s family wrote the court that they would support her throughout therapy.
