A woman died in a Tacoma apartment Tuesday afternoon and a man has been detained as a suspect, Tacoma police said.

Officers were dispatched to a disturbance call at an apartment complex in the 1800 block of South 82nd Street at 3:47 p.m., according to Tacoma Police Department spokeswoman Wendy Haddow.

When they arrived at 3:55 p.m., police found an injured 61-year-woman. Tacoma Fire Department medics pronounced the woman dead inside the apartment, Haddow said.

A neighbor told officers that they had seen a shirtless male in tan pants leaving the apartment. Officers located the 30-year-old man behind the apartments at 4:11 p.m. and took him into custody without incident, Haddow said.

The victim and suspect both lived in the apartment, but their relationship to each other wasn’t immediately known, Haddow said.

Detectives and forensic specialists were investigating the scene Tuesday evening.
