Officials identify teenager fatally shot in Ruston

A teenage boy who was killed in an Oct. 9 shooting in Ruston was identified Monday by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Khyle Joseph Carmignani, 19, of Spanaway, died at the scene of a shooting near the 5300 block of Yacht Club Road, according to a news release from the office.

Officials did not release a cause of death.

Police responded to the Oct. 9 shooting at about 11:15 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that a man had been shot in the area. Tacoma and Ruston police arrived and provided first aid to Carmignani, but he died at the scene.

Police are investigating Carmignani’s death as a homicide. No one has been arrested.

Family and friends of Carmignani gathered Saturday near the scene of the shooting for a vigil to share memories and remember the teenager’s life.

Carmignani’s aunt, Michelle Carmignani Kennedy, told Fox 13 her nephew was known for his big hugs and for protecting his family. She said her family is looking for justice and closure after his death.

“Just imagine it was yours, and how would you want people to respond,” Kennedy told the news station. “How would you want people to act. We need them to come forward. We need them to, if they know something, say something.”
