Officials identify man fatally shot by Spanaway homeowner during break-in

A man who deputies said was shot and killed last week by a homeowner in Spanaway after the intruder and another person broke into the man’s house has been identified.

Sha’Biez Moore, 24, died Dec. 9 in the 100 block of 165th Street East of a gunshot wound to the chest, the Pierce County Medical Exmainer’s Office announced in a news release. Moore was a Spanaway resident.

Deputies responded to the Spanaway residence about 4:20 a.m. after the homeowner’s sister called 911 to report the incident. The homeowner, a 31-year-old man, told deputies he shot at two intruders who tried to break in through his back door. The intruders fled, and Moore collapsed in the front yard, where deputies found him dead.

The second intruder was not located by deputies.

The homeowner and his sister cooperated with law enforcement and were brought to a sheriff’s department precinct to be interviewed by investigators.

No one has been arrested. Deputies said detectives would complete the investigation and forward the case to the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
