Tacoma man found fatally shot in city’s Eastside neighborhood is identified

A 29-year-old man found fatally shot last week in Tacoma after neighbors heard gunshots overnight has been identified by the Pierce County medical examiner.

Skyler Cruz Zimmerle of Tacoma died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to a news release from the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office. The office ruled his death a homicide.

Tacoma Police Department is investigating, but so far no arrests have been made. Zimmerle was found in some bushes Sept. 1 along a residential street in the 2000 block of East Wright Avenue. Tacoma firefighters responded to that area at 7:44 a.m. and determined the man was dead before calling police.

Nearby residents told police they heard gunshots at about 3 a.m., but 911 was not called.

A GoFundMe was set up to raise money for Zimmerle’s family to help pay for funeral arrangements. The man’s killing was the 32nd homicide in Tacoma this year. Since then, two more people have died by homicide, both in shootings.
