A 73-year-old man who died last weekend after Tacoma police said he stepped off the sidewalk on Pacific Avenue and was struck by an SUV driver has been identified by the medical examiner.

Charles Traversie, Jr. of Tacoma died Jan. 28 of multiple blunt-force injuries, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office said in a Thursday news release.

Traversie was hit at about 7:10 p.m. in the 5900 block of Pacific Avenue, according to Tacoma Police Department. A 45-year-old man was driving north with a woman in the passenger seat when the victim was struck. Police said Traversie was presumably trying to cross the street.

The SUV driver called 911, and Traversie was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver wasn’t under the influence. A spokesperson didn’t immediately have an update Friday on the collision investigation.
