Teenager shot in ‘accidental’ death turned homicide in Lakewood has been identified

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the teenager who was fatally shot by another teen on June 23 in Lakewood.

Desmin Jarrett, 16, of Lakewood died from a gunshot wound to his chest, the Medical Examiner determined.

Lakewood police were first told that the shooting at a home in the 8900 block of Commercial Street SW was an accident. An investigation pointed instead to murder, police said.

Investigators soon identified a juvenile suspect and he surrendered at the Lakewood Police Department on the afternoon of the shooting. He was booked for investigation of murder.
