Man arrested on suspicion of murder for fatal shooting Monday in Tacoma
A 29-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in Tacoma on suspicion of first-degree murder for fatally shooting a man in the city’s South End.
The Tacoma Police Department has released few details about the shooting or what led up to it. Police said officers responded just before 6 p.m. Monday to the 8600 block of South C Street and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers tried to try to save the man’s life, police said, but fire department personnel declared him dead at the scene.
The victim has not been publicly identified. The News Tribune is not naming the man suspected of killing him because he has not been formally charged.
It’s unclear how he was identified as a suspect. In a news release issued Thursday afternoon announcing the arrest, police said detectives developed probable cause to arrest him, then took him into custody when he was located around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 6400 block of Pacific Avenue.
The suspect does not appear to have any prior felony convictions in Pierce County, according to court records. He was charged Tuesday in a separate case for unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle.
Tacoma police detained him July 20 for driving a stolen moped on Pacific Avenue with a suspended license, according to charging documents. Records state he ran from police after he was stopped and dropped what appeared to be a handgun, but officers lost track of both the suspect and the firearm.
