The man killed in a Tacoma shooting late last month was Pepe Jaquez, 56 of McCleary, Washington, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

In a Tuesday news release, the medical examiner said the cause of Jaquez’s death was a gunshot wound to the head and the manner was homicide.

The shooting Aug. 27 near the 3500 block of South 19th Street in Tacoma also injured a 50-year-old man. The second victim was found by a K-9 unit some distance away from Jaquez and taken to the hospital. Jaquez died at the hospital, according to a previous reporting by The News Tribune.

William Pierre Pelkey, 43, was arrested on Aug. 31 for the shooting. He was arraigned on Friday at Pierce County Superior Court and charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. His bail was set for $1.5 million and a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.

Pelkey remains in custody in Pierce County Jail.
